Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma

Who We Are

Since its establishment in 1963, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma's mission has been to produce quality professional theatre; to encourage and educate talented individuals; to promote collaboration among the arts; and to enrich the quality of life for the people of Oklahoma.

Lyric's organizational vision is to reinvent classic plays and musicals and present them in new ways, with a strong focus on inclusion and diversity; to cultivate the next generation of artists through the production of new works and providing opportunities to artists-in-residence and Oklahoma performers to work on world premieres; to grow Lyric’s traditional, large-scale musicals at the Civic Center Music Hall while nurturing thought-provoking, intimate-scale productions at the Plaza Theatre; to develop the Thelma Gaylord Academy curriculum based on national academic standards and emphasize each student’s college preparatory needs; and to provide instruction for all Oklahoma schoolchildren, regardless of socioeconomic status, and create avenues to serve Title I schools and low-income students.

Lyric is an active member of the Oklahoma City arts community and strives to consistently exceed artistic expectations for its patrons. In recent years, Lyric has gained national attention and recognition for fostering innovative undertakings, such as the development of new works and inclusion efforts for Deaf and autistic audiences.

What We Do

Lyric is the state's only regional theatre company that produces a year-round season of productions geared to all ages/interests. The season is comprised of four intimate productions in the fall/spring at Lyric's 279-seat Plaza Theatre on NW 16th Street, and four large-scale Broadway-caliber musicals produced during the summer at downtown Oklahoma City's 2,500-seat Civic Center Music Hall. Additionally, Lyric serves hundreds of local children through its Thelma Gaylord Academy program which offers structured, semester-based classes for ages 4-19, and reaches over 35,000+ children annually across the state with its free arts outreach touring program, Musical Interactive.
