Do you have a green thumb? Or want to learn how to grow organic vegetables? TLC Garden Centers operates an organic vegetable garden on the Chesapeake campus and donates the produce to the Day Shelter, allowing us to serve fresh healthy meals to our guests.
The Day Shelter serves breakfast and lunch to an average of 275 people each day, so the more produce we can get from the garden, the better! That's where you come in. Garden volunteers are needed to help with watering, sewing seeds, harvesting, cultivating soil, pulling weeds, and sifting compost.
Volunteers are needed on most Wednesday evenings and Saturdays throughout the year.
This is a great volunteer opportunity for people of all ages. Volunteers will be digging in the garden, so dress appropriately! Gardening gloves and tools will be provided by TLC Garden Centers.
If you are interested, please click the "Respond" button on this page and provide your contact information. A representative from TLC Garden Centers or the Homeless Alliance will follow-up with you to confirm available volunteer dates and times.
Wednesday 5:30-8 p.m.*
*Please note, schedules can vary depending on the weather and schedule of the lead gardener. Once you register, we will follow-up with you for scheduling.
