Who We Are
“ Where resilience meets resources; empowering survivors of human trafficking to reclaim their lives and flourish.” Survivor Source is here to meet a need, connecting survivors of human trafficking to the resources they need provided by organizations that specifically serve survivors. Think of it as a 211, specifically for us, started by us! Survivor Source is Survivor ran, and will be giving preference to other survivors in the hiring process. We connect with service providers nationwide to have a national listing of organizations and resources, organized by state, so you can easily access everything close to you. This can also be a helpful tool for other service providers who need to locate services in the area or further away, for their clients.
What We Do
To tell you a little bit more about Survivor Source, this is my baby. I struggled for a long time to find resources and the help that I needed to safely exit the life because I did not know how to navigate through organizations and skewed information. I envision Survivor Source being a 211 specifically for survivors of human trafficking, to connect them with Organizations that offer services to survivors.
My resource hub website is not live yet, because I am waiting for consent from other organizations to be listed, but once I have enough listings I will be going live with my domain name site. For now I do have a link tree style page that I created that can be found on my profile here.
Our platform will be completely online, and offer resources and services that can be accessed anywhere with a computer or phone and internet connection. In the meantime, we are on Facebook, and we share organizations' posts from around the country daily.
The resource hub will have resources divided by state, listing all organizations, their website, about them, and the services that they provide. It can also include contact information if an organization would like. There will be a national listing for organizations that offer nationwide services, a professional development page with resources for survivors who are entering the workforce or want to start their own businesses and a family resources page.
The soundtrack for success: For survivors of human trafficking, music can be particularly powerful. Many survivors have limited exposure to diverse music during their trafficking experience, and certain songs may trigger traumatic memories. "Soundtrack for Success" aims to counteract this by offering a curated playlist of uplifting and empowering music that is diverse and avoids potentially triggering content. We also have the option to add suggestions of songs that have been empowering to you on your journey to be reviewed to add to the playlist! So far Survivor Source has a playlist on YouTube Music and Spotify, with songs picked by survivors and allies nationwide. It is a healing and inclusive process. We even have survivor artists who are in the works of making a song for us!
Web scrubbing: We are in the process of partnering with a harmful online content removal company that we can send referrals to so that we can aid survivors in getting harmful pictures and videos off the internet, allowing them to retake their online presence, and truly start fresh.
Survivor Internship opportunities: To offer our own form of professional development, we are adding a program later down the line to give survivors solid experience to put on their resume and a stipend for their work. There will be a few internships opening up to start, one for musical development: a survivor will listen to all playlist suggestions coming through and decide what is appropriate to add. A content creator internship: we will provide a survivor with a Canva account and let them create creative pictures, storyboards, find quotes, and other things for us to use on social media. Research intern: will research and find other organizations that serve in the industry that are not yet listed and find their services.
In the future, we want to offer global services and have a hotline like 211, but this is the beginning of our journey, and we will slowly and steadily get there.
