Do you know someone who works at a nursing home, assisted living facility, Meals on Wheels program, hospice, or senior center? We’d love your help spreading the word about Letters Against Isolation!

Our volunteers send friendly, handwritten letters to senior citizens. Since 2020, we’ve mailed more than one million letters in over 40 languages.

We’re actively expanding our outreach in Oklahoma and looking for senior programs that would benefit from receiving happy mail. If you're personally connected to a facility (as a volunteer, employee, or family member), we encourage you to reach out to them and share our website!

Please don’t sign up on a facility’s behalf. A staff member, such as an activity director, volunteer coordinator, or program manager, must complete the request form themselves.

We are launching a skills training program for the homeless in our community, and we need your help!

We’re looking for used sewing machines, both working and non-working, to support our participants as they learn valuable skills to rebuild their lives and gain independence. If you have a machine collecting dust, give it a second life and make a lasting impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What should I write about?
Think of your letter as a friendly conversation. Share personal stories, hobbies, or a favorite memory. Avoid sensitive topics like religion, politics, holidays, health and mobility. Asking a question demonstrates an interest in the reader, gives them something to think about and inspires conversation. We've created this general guide and these lists of notable dates for each month.

2. Where do I mail my letters?
After registering, check your welcome email for portal access instructions. If you can’t find it, check your junk or promotions folder, or email me for assistance.

3. Can I mail letters to other countries?
Yes! With facilities in four countries, you’re welcome to choose a destination locally or internationally. Just ensure you use the correct postage for international mail.

4. What if there are no facilities in the location where I want to write?
Our user portal refreshes every two weeks, so check back at the start of the next cycle. If there are no facilities near you, you can also choose a location in another region or country if mailing farther away is an option.

5. Do you accept letters in other languages?
Yes! Use the language filter in our user portal to find destinations that accept letters in any of 30 different languages.

6. Can groups or organizations volunteer? How about teachers and educators?
Absolutely! Whether you’re part of a student club, workplace team, community group or classroom, our resources are designed to support group participation. Start here. 

7. Can I earn community service hours for my letters?
Yes, students can earn 15 minutes of service time per approved letter. Register using the student form and share photos of your letters with your assigned Community Service Liaison.

8. Is there any commitment required to volunteer?
No, there’s no commitment until you pledge letters in the user portal. You’re free to write as many or as few letters as you’d like, whenever it suits your schedule.

9. What happens if I pledge letters but can’t complete them?
Once you pledge letters in the portal, those letters are reserved specifically for you. It’s important to complete and send them so the seniors receive the connections they’re waiting for. If you’re unsure about your availability, it’s best to wait until you’re ready to write before making a pledge.

10. How do the facilities handle letters?
Each location handles letters differently. Staff often review them to ensure the content is appropriate, and they may try to match letters with individual readers. Some places post letters on bulletin boards, read them as a group activity, distribute them to individuals at mealtimes or place them in baskets for seniors to pick and share. Letters sent to Meals on Wheels programs are typically shared by a volunteer who doesn’t know the recipient. Specific details or requests from facilities may be noted in the user portal.

11. Will I receive a reply to my letter?
Most seniors aren’t able to reply, but your letter will still mean the world to them. Treat it as a one-time act of kindness that brings joy and connection.

12. Can my aged care home, senior center or meals on wheels program receive letters?

Please ask a director or manager to register as a care home.

Help us organize clothing, food, and hygiene donations, build resumes in the computer lab, pickup food, and so much more!

For 50 years, Youth & Family Services, Inc. (YFS) has been in the business of helping children, youth and families in our community, which includes portions of Oklahoma, Blaine, Kingfisher, and Canadian Counties. Everyone benefits when children grow up in happy homes, and youth are supported to reach their potential. Our services directly impact about 2,600 individuals each year, from abused and neglected children in our foster care program and in our emergency shelter, to at-risk teens transitioning to adulthood in our Independent Living Program (ILP). All of our services are provided free of charge thanks to generous support from both public and private donors.  Donations of diapers and full-size hygiene products are utilized in our emergency shelter, foster care families and to support youth aging out of foster care or experiencing homelessness.  Host a drive for these items at your business, through your church or as part of any leadership group.  We would love to talk to you more about this opportunity!

Do you feel like changing a life, or having your’s changed? Become a Make Promises Happen volunteer counselor or junior counselor!  Counselors change lives at each and every MPH event. Counselors change lives through helping individuals with special needs overcome limitation and achieve great feats. Counselors also provide a safe environment for campers to grow in confidence and achievement. Most importantly, they change lives through creating lifelong friendships with those whose bodies and minds may be limited, but personalities and spirits are amazing!

Children who have experienced abuse or neglect face a frightening, profound unknown. Courtrooms. Foster care. New schools. No child should face these alone. Trained and supported CASA volunteers advocate in court on behalf of these children. They stay with each child until the case is closed and the child is in a safe, permanent home.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate and is a volunteer commitment unlike any other. CASA volunteers are trained, dedicated adults who advocate for a child’s best interests in juvenile court.  The information gathered by the volunteer is submitted to the court. These recommendations and concerns help to better inform the the Judge as he or she makes decisions on the case.  CASA volunteers are guided by their advocate supervisors who provide coaching and oversight throughout the case. To be a CASA volunteer, you must be at least 21 years old and must be able to pass a background check, confidential interview, and successfully complete training.

CASA for Kids serves children in Payne, Logan, and Kay Counties in Oklahoma.

The CASA volunteer visits the child(ren) on his or her case at least monthly to assess how well they are doing in their current placement and develop a rapport with the child.  The National CASA Association has determined that children with a CASA volunteer on their cases:

RMH volunteers find it personally gratifying, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally meaningful to assist those in need at a critical point in their lives. Many of our volunteers were introduced to hospice through the death of a family member and understand firsthand the value of hospice care, but nearly 20% of volunteers are new to hospice. Volunteers consistently report that helping the terminally ill through hospice is not about dying but about living.

RMH has many areas where people of all ages you can serve as a volunteer.  Participants may range in age from teens to senior citizens.  Our Director of Volunteers strives to constructively utilize the time and talents of those who answer the call to serve. Some volunteers may have professional skills or specialized expertise, but most are just people who want to help their friends and neighbors and serve their community.

Volunteers are the heart of hospice and exemplify the hospice concept. RMH relies on the generosity of volunteers to fulfill our mission. Many of our programs and services would not be possible if it were not for the countless hours donated by caring individuals from the communities we serve. All RMH volunteers are trained to ensure that they are equipped for the challenge of working with the dying. Each volunteer is asked to complete an extensive orientation and training developed for their area of interest , as well as submit to a routine background check, before a service assignment is made. It’s important that our volunteers understand the history of hospice and are aware of the specific philosophy that RMH practices in service delivery. The following are areas available for volunteer service.

RMH Patient Care Volunteers provide support and care for our terminally ill patients, of all ages, so they can live life as full and comfortably as possible. An affirmation of life, hospice enables people to live until they die and we equip their families to go on living after they are gone. Volunteers make a remarkable difference in the lives of the patients and their family members at a time when emotional needs are profound. Patient care volunteering can be in the areas of:

Companion Care Volunteers provide companionship and support to patients and families in the patient’s home, nursing home or assisted living center. Services might include visiting, reading, taking walks, writing letters, playing games, sharing music, supervising visits with pets, even massage therapy for volunteers with the necessary skills.

Family Respite and Support Volunteers can assist with tasks such as shopping, household cleaning, or allow family caregivers the opportunity to take care of necessary errands and get some time away from the house. Family members also appreciate a visit from a compassionate friend who understands what they are going through.

Bereavement Volunteers work closely with the hospice’s Director of Bereavement and professional counselors in duties that range from providing companionship and support to family members and friends who have lost a loved one to assisting at support group meetings or helping with mailings to clients and families.

Office Volunteers provide administrative support to the hospice staff. Filing, computer input, assembling information packets, telephone support and reception work are examples of the types of work done by our office volunteers.

Community Education Volunteers join with professional staff members to assist in educating the community, in a variety of settings, about the benefits of hospice care and other important topics.

Special Event & Fundraising Volunteers work with the Director of Business Development by assisting RMH with community programs and events that raise funds and community awareness of hospice care.

Our community volunteers are the backbone of El Reno Blessing Baskets! Volunteers from age 3 to 83 donate many hours to serve others in our community. Our volunteers are made up of families, newlyweds, Sunday School classes, honor students, employees from local businesses, and recipients of our programs.

Give Your Time and Talent 

Fundraising- (Hours vary) Volunteers may be responsible for coordinating fundraising events, or researching and developing grant applications depending on the interests and skill set of the volunteer.

Victim Advocate- (10-30 hrs/wk) Volunteers may be responsible for answering phones, scheduling interviews, creating family resource folders, assisting with administrative tasks, entering case files, organizing the desk area and play room, replenishing snacks and drinks, and supervising children as needed. Relevant background in childhood development and current affiliation with a University is required.

Maintenance- (Hours vary) Volunteers will be responsible for small projects around the house or property that need attention in order to keep our houses comfortable and warm for our families, and our yard enjoyable, family friendly, and safe for children.

Special Events- (Hours vary) Volunteers who would like to be contacted when an event needs to be staffed or for other irregular tasks that are necessary to support the center.

We are looking for a friendly, outgoing, and social volunteer to complete some tasks in the office. Some of the tasks would include being available to open the office at 8am, answering phone calls, writing letters, and completing tuck in calls to our patients. This is a great opportunity to build connections with our patients. 

As a vigil volunteer your role will be to provide comfort to our patients by sitting with them during their hours or days of life. You're there to provide emotional support for the patient by reading, singing, listening to their stories, or holding their hand. This is a great way to give some of your time doing something fun! This is a friendly visitor volunteer opportunity and you will be volunteering in one of our health care facilities in OKC, you will paint nails of our patients and any other residents who would like their nails painted as well. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under the general supervision of the Youth
Services Director, the incumbent in this class is responsible for assisting same in all aspects of
the administration, organization, operation and supervision of the community youth program.

This is a responsible position, involving assisting the Youth Services Director in the formulation
and carrying out of programs meeting the community's youth needs. The Assistant Youth
Services Director assists the Youth Services Director in the analysis, evaluation and promotion
of various programs and acts for him/her in his/her absence. Supervision is exercised over a

Spend your lunch engaging with babies and toddlers! Classroom Buddies support an enriching early learning environment. In just one hour, you'll make an impact that lasts a lifetime!

Become a Classroom Buddy and make a difference for babies, toddlers, and teachers! Classroom Buddies assist teaching staff during the lunch transition hour from 11 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Our support group facilitators work with children ages 3-18 years of age and their guardians. An in-house clinician remains on-site during all support group sessions.

Training is required before a potential Support Group Facilitator may begin leading support groups.

These students are currently under-performing in math(Foundational Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I). Seeking friendly visitor volunteers to start a book club and play bingo with senior residents at our local facilities. As a friendly visitor volunteer this is not only a chance to make new friendship connections but you can also bring joy to our patients and give back. With the reading group opportunity you will visit the facility one time a week and read to a group maybe one to two chapters a week and discuss what happened and all the interesting things you read about in each chapter. When playing bingo you can visit the facility one to two times a month and play bingo with the residents.

Seeking veteran volunteers to help with pinning ceremonies for veterans on our hospice service, this is a great opportunity not only to make new friends but to share experiences as well as honor a vet for their service and to help make them feel special when they're dealing with so much having to deal with end of life decisions. The Ministry of Hearts & Art, a seasonal program of CHILD CHAMPIONS INC., has developed a seasonal project called the Canvas Cross Painting class. This class is designed to encourage kids to use their gifts and talents to learn about and express the love of God, toward others through the story of Jesus Christ.

We will be having these classes on Saturdays. We need volunteers to sit, be a friend and  assist younger kids when needed.

Single Parents Support Network is working with Good360 to receive and distribute donations to our members. Volunteers are needed to organize donations while in storage, and to help distribute on designated days once a quarter. Hours for organization can work with volunteer's availability. Distribution days would be on a Saturday, TBD.

Single Parent Support Network is hosting its first annual golf tournament on Monday, September 20, 2021 at The Golf Club of Edmond, 4001 Fairfax Dr. in Edmond. We are in need of talented, creative and fun volunteers that would like to help us plan the best tournament ever and are willing to work to make the tournament a success. Meetings would be monthly and volunteering the day of the event would be appreciated.
