Who We Are

NAIC-Norman Addiction Information & Counseling, Inc., A United Way of Norman Partner Agency, was founded in September 1972 by the Reverend Richard "Dick" Virtue through an initial grant provided by the National Episcopal Churchwomen and matching gifts from Norman civic leaders. Father Dick served as founding executive director for 30 years before retiring in 2002. H.N. "Sonny" Scott served as our leader for 6 years before our current executive director, Teresa Collado, took the reins in 2008.

In 1973, United Way of Norman accepted NAIC for funding. In 1975, NAIC became the first agency in the state with whom the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services contracted to provide substance abuse treatment.

In 1996, NAIC relocated to our current spacious building from a small house next to St. John's Episcopal Church. NAIC is now across the street from St. John's where it had its first one-person office. The purchase of this building was made possible through grants from the Sarkeys, Kerr, Mabee, and McCasland foundations.

Today NAIC provides a full spectrum of services from prevention to aftercare for clients of all ages. NAIC is certified for outpatient treatment services for substance abuse and gambling by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

NAIC is supported through the United Way of Norman, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, grants, foundations, individual gifts, and memorial contributions. NAIC also accepts Medicaid, insurances and sliding scale fees for services. No on is refused service based on inability to pay.
