About Our Housing Program:
At Mental Health Association Oklahoma (MHAOK), we believe housing is health care. In 2024 alone, 234 individuals across Oklahoma transitioned from homelessness into stable housing with the support of our programs. These are neighbors who were once living in shelters, encampments, or on the street, now gaining a safe, supportive place to call home. While funding for our programs provides rental assistance and supportive services, it does not allow for the purchase of basic household goods. That means when someone moves in, they often do so without essentials like pots and pans, bath towels, bed linens, or cleaning supplies.
Why Move-In / Welcome Kits? These kits give residents the dignity of starting fresh in a safe home with the items they need to truly settle in. A simple set of essentials can transform a bare apartment into a livable, welcoming space.
Your team can help provide:
- Kitchen basics: Dinnerware, cookware, utensils, dish towels.
- Bathroom items: Towels, shower curtain, hygiene essentials.
- Bedroom needs: Bed linens, blankets, and pillows.
- Cleaning supplies: Mop, broom, sponges, detergent, trash bags.
Project Details:
- What’s Needed: Volunteers purchase supplies and assemble Move-In/Welcome Kits.
- Where: Kits are assembled off-site by your team and delivered to MHAOK’s Oklahoma City office: 915 N. Robinson Ave.
Impact:
Ensures individuals moving from homelessness to housing have the dignity, comfort, and stability of a true home.
How You Can Help:
We are seeking an organization to sponsor and assemble these kits during United Way of Central Oklahoma’s Day of Caring. Your generosity will give our newest residents more than just a roof; it will give them a warm welcome home.
