Are you a CPA? Can you lend your financial expertise to United Way?
As agencies apply for funding from United Way, they provide an annual operating budget and a program budget along with their most recent annual audit and IRS Form 990. Additionally, United Way pulls GuideStar/Nonprofit Finance Fund Financial Scan Reports. This information is then reviewed by qualified financial experts (preferably CPAs) using a checklist to make an overall determination of the fiscal health of the organization and to advise the other Community Investment Subcommittee volunteers on areas of concern.
To accomplish this task, we are going to have a one-time meeting to review all of the financial information at the same time. This will ensure a more uniform evaluation of the information by all reviewers so that all the agencies get the same level of review. It will be a four hour meeting and each volunteer will have 3 to 4 audits to look at. The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 8th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. here at the United Way of Central Oklahoma office located at 1444 NW 28th Street.
